Norton Utilities For Mac

I haven't been able to figure out how to use that zip/unzip utility. The following appears on-screen: 'For a brief help on zip and unzip, run each without specifying any parameters on the command line.' The screen's command line doesn't allow me to enter any text, though.

Sometimes,.zip files (and other archives) don't unzip when you double-click them. When that happens, there are a couple of other things you can try.

I tried to enter 'unzip' directly after the ':' -- isn't that correct? Also, assuming I can get it working, will it unzip encrypted zipfiles?

If it's a barebones zip/unzip utility, it probably won't, and therefore won't be of any help for what I need to do. I have no idea what going on. Did you launch the Terminal.app in /Applications/Utilities/? If so, if you type the following in the window that pops up and hit the return key: unzip you should get: $ unzip UnZip 5.52 of 28 February 2005, by Info-ZIP. Maintained by C. Send bug reports using see README for details. Usage: unzip [-Z] [-opts[modifiers]] file[.zip] [list] [-x xlist] [-d exdir] Default action is to extract files in list, except those in xlist, to exdir; file[.zip] may be a wildcard.

-Z => ZipInfo mode ('unzip -Z' for usage). When I had typed 'man zip' after the colon (:) prompt yesterday it did not work for some reason. As soon as I started typing, the screen just scrolled without the text I was typing appearing on the screen. But today with 'man unzip' I'm getting the same results you show (except your version of the zip utility is slightly later than mine -- how can I get the latest?). I'm curious to see whether it will unzip an encrypted zip archive created on the Windows platform (actually, from the MS-DOS prompt). Some of the command options are the same as PKUNZIP's, but the 'password' command option is different (i.e., -p instead of -s).

Maybe it will make no difference. Is there a way I can 'capture' the whole 'manual' (from 'man unzip')?

Right now I'm just seeing it display line by line. Thanks again. You have some funky system. You state that your Terminal.app prompt is the colon.

In the default shell, bash, the prompt is the dollar sign. Additionally, it fills the entire screen and I use the space bar to page down. Under Terminal->Window settings->Buffer I've set unlimited scrollback and enabled all scrollback options. Have you changed the default shell?

BTW, what I posted is what you should get with unzip: i.e., the short version. The manpage is called with: $man unzip UNZIP(1L) UNZIP(1L) NAME unzip - list, test and extract compressed files in a ZIP archive SYNOPSIS unzip [-Z] [-cflptTuvz[abjnoqsCKLMVWX$/:]] file[.zip] [file(s).] [-x xfile(s).] [-d exdir] DESCRIPTION unzip will list, test, or extract files from a ZIP archive, commonly found on MS-DOS systems. The default behavior (with no options) is to extract into the current directory (and subdirectories below it) all files from the specified ZIP archive. A companion program, zip(1L), creates ZIP archives; both programs are compatible with archives created by PKWARE's PKZIP and PKUNZIP for MS-DOS, but in many cases the program options or default behaviors differ. However, just use 5.51, currently shipping with Mac OS X. Alternatively, you can see the OS X manpages at.
